Where I Come From

Let’s see I was born in Chandler, Arizona. Lived there until I was in the sixth grade. But I don’t really consider myself from Chandler. I was just a bare foot, dirty, non-matching clothes wearing kid. I thought riding bikes, playing with Barbie’s, dancing in the yard, playing in sprinklers and playing softball was all life was about. 12 years there. (about)

We then moved to Show Low, Arizona. I started sixth grade there and graduated from there. I met The Miner there. I had my first daughter there. I hated it while I was a teenager. It was small. We partied in the woods in the back of pick up trucks. Bonfires every weekend. I lived there until I was 17. I am so glad to have lived my “growing” up years there.

When I turned 17, The Miner, Brodie and I packed up and headed to Texas. Just us three. We lived in Huntsville, Bryan / College Station, Bandera, Kerrville, Big Springs, Nacogdoches and other places I’m sure I’m missing. Dayton was born in Kerrville. Tristan was born in Odessa. I spent 10 years + in Texas.

But where I come from has always been small.

That doesn’t make me small minded.

Where I come from is slow paced.

That doesn’t make me slow in my thinking.

Where I come from they talk “funny”.

That doesn’t make me stupid.

Where I come from they like to drive trucks.

That doesn’t make me a redneck or a hick.

Where I come from they love horses.

That doesn’t mean I’m going to the Kentucky Derby.

Where I come from they hunt and not just for sport or to poach.

That doesn’t make me a killer.

Where I come from they are conservative.

That doesn’t make a racist.

Where I come from we are patriotic.

Where I come from we stop for strangers to see if they need help.

Where I come from we drive slow so that we can always appreciate our surroundings.

Where I come from people pray and go to church – because they have a belief in something.

Where I come from I know my next door neighbors dogs name.

Where I come from the trees are tall, grass is green and the bluebonnets stunning.

Where I come from life is more about who is around you and the love you share.

Where I come from life is less about the other stuff.

Where I come from we are equal.

Where I come from we aren’t better than our next door neighbor because we’ve seen the world.

I’m proud of where I come from.

I’m proud of where I will go.
