Southern Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

Southern Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

I realize if you came here lookin’ for a Southern Chicken Fried Steak recipe, you were probably lookin’ for somethin’ easy to create. The truth of the matter when it comes to those livin’ the country and/or southern life, we really don’t have the time to cook like Paula Deen or the likes. Usually we are workin’ all day and want to sit down with the family to a good home cooked meal that fills ya up and we don’t have the time (or a kitchen) like Mrs. Deen. So if you came here for real southern, real home cooked meals – stay awhile.

My Southern Chicken Fried Steak Dinner consists of Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Corn and White Gravy (commonly called country gravy).

Recipe, Ingredients, Instructions and Serving Suggestions for a Complete Southern Chicken Fried Steak Dinner.
  • Cube Steaks
  • Flour (I use King Arthur's Bread Flour because that's what's in the pantry.)
  • Salt, Pepper, Paprika & Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Cooking Oil
  • Can of Corn
  • Idahoan Instant Mashed Potato Mix
  • Butter
  • Grocery Store Bakery Prepared Rolls
  • 1-2 White Gravy (country gravy) Mix Packet
  1. Fill up your deep fat fryer with oil and get it heated up.
  2. Chicken Fried Mix (batter): Flour, Salt, Pepper, Paprika & Creole Seasoning. Mix this together well.
  3. Egg Wash Mix: Milk & Eggs whisked together well.
  4. Take cube steaks and dunk into the egg wash mix, then into the chicken fried mix and then back into the egg wash mix.
  5. Toss into oil. Cook for about 10 minutes (making sure to flip both sides). I usually cook it until right before it burns.
  6. Prepare your instant potatoes, gravy and corn. I add butter to both the corn and potatoes and a bit of milk to the potatoes too.
  7. Top of your meal with the tasty already prepared rolls that you can throw in the microwave for about 5 seconds to get a little warm.
