Pocket Communications – Review

I have the cell phone curse on me. I can NEVER find the right plan for me. Nor could I ever find the phone that I wanted more than anything else in the world. If you read my main blog, you will know that I have found that. But like anything else in life you know, you’ve got to go through a few bad ones to find the good one.

Well here is my BAD experience with a company I will NEVER recommend. This is just to let you know that not all cell phone companies, though they sound fantastic, are a respectable company.

Have you ever heard of Pocket Communications? It is much like Cricket. Pocket Communications served Texas, and I believe a couple other states, but nothing major. In Texas it mainly served the San Antonio and Southern/Central are of Texas. Any farther north of San Antonio and you lose service.

Which at the time that I looked into getting service with this company it was not a big deal. I stayed around home and just needed something to play with and have something else I could be reached on in case of emergency. So the coverage area was the least of my worries.

The plan I chose was $53.00 a month, with unlimited EVERYTHING! Great huh?! No contract. Even better!

I found the phone that I preferred and was within my price range and got started. The salesman was not one I would say is the normal cell phone salesman. He asked personal questions and made lewd comments about my friend. Which I realize now was probably my first clue, but you can’t blame the company on one person, so I gave it go anyway.

A day later my phone quits working. Just stops. So I take it back into the store and they charge me to replace the broken phone they sold me. Even though they admitted to selling me a faulty phone. No big deal it was a $5.00 charge, I could handle that. I had already entered all my information into the phone etc. Now I was going to have redo it all over again. We all know how big of a pain that is. So the same salesman from the day before hands me a pen and paper. To write down all 100 contacts. As for any multimedia I have my phone, it’s gone. Lost. Forever. I ask if he could hook it up to the machine to transfer. He said he would for a discounted price of $5.00 instead of the $20.00. Great! I could afford $10.00. But it was not $10.00. It ended up costing me $25.00. I walked out of there in a hurry, having to get back to my house to get my daughter of the bus. I realized by the time I got home I NEVER received my change. I called immediately and informed the salesman that I did not receive my change. He informed me I was freeloading and lying and that his drawer was not over nor under. WHAT?!?!?! I contacted their corporate office through email and phone. Still I heard nothing and NEVER received my money. A couple days later I received a text message from the salesman from his private phone to my cell phone (which he must have looked up my information in his computer for this or something) telling me why I never got the money.

Ridiculous.

They are a sham cell phone company with horrendous employees that have no respect for the customer. Their corporate offices don’t know anything about what is going on in their stores nor do they care.

I would not recommend this cell phone company at all.

  1. Wow! What an awful company! In a time when the economy is so bad and companies need to figure out ways to keep their customers, it is amazing that companies can have such terrible customer service. I’m sure this company won’t last long!

I’m sorry to hear that. I have had nothing but excellent customer service and phone service with Pocket and have found that the “flat rate” unlimited plan saves me a ton of money compared to my former “V” carrier. I don’t think your “bad” experience is indicative of the company as a whole..and I can use my phone ANYWHERE now that they have roaming.
