Mommy Grace (Book) Review and Giveaway*closed*

Mommy Grace Book Cover Mommy Grace is tagged with being about “Erasing your mommy guilt”. Something we all know we have.

An excerpt from the back of the book:

“I know look back and shake my head at how foolish I was. I did a lot of things right as a young mother. I also made more than my share of mistakes. In the final  analysis, the biggest mistake I made was worrying too much, berating myself too much, and subsequently losing out on much of the joy of being a mother.”

I’m pretty sure that is me in a nutshell. I know I do things right, I know I’ve done things right. I also know I’ve done a lot of things wrong and I find myself all too often than not beating myself up over every single mistake instead of thinking of all the good I’ve done.

Mommy Grace is a book every single Mom can relate to. It’s not another book armed with “being or becoming the perfect Mom”, but simply reminding us to enjoy these precious moments we have with our children — while they are still children. It gently reminds us that these moments, all of them, we can’t get back. Enjoy the here, enjoy the now and quit beating yourself up over the little things.

This book is a book you can pick up and read at any moment when you feel as though you are failing yourself and your kids. My favorite quote from the book is “The key to capturing your child’s soul is to: Listen with your eyes —  Hear with your heart.” This would make a perfect gift for any Mom (even a great stocking stuffer!)

  1. I’m only allowed to pick one thing I beat myself up about?

You mean I have to choose between working full time, liking to go out on the weekend with Hubman, not being a produce nazi, letting them watch television and not filling their every free moment with wholesome, educational activities.

Just pick your favorite out of those for me.

The book does sound great and I will be getting it for my co worker.

  46. I beat myself up over tons of things on a daily basis because I suffer from depression & the littlest things can set me spiraling downwards. Even more so now since the hubby & I lost our house only one month before I gave birth to our 1st child & once that happened we’ve been drowning in bad luck ever since. So I feel like i’ve started off an unfit mother, even htough I know deep down somewhere that it’s not my fault & I’m not unfit I still get really down about everything that’s gone horribly wrong for us these past 3 months.

  58. I beat myself up all of the time for thinking I don’t spend enough time giving my children a lot of attention, especially my son. I feel guilty that since we had another child, I don;t give him all of the attention I used to. I can’t, it’s just not possible, but I still beat myself up over it. I am always my own biggest critic.

  64. Lori taube says:

Although I still consider myself a new mother (my son is only 2 years old) I have my share of mommy guilt.. I would say that I mainly beat myself up over the discipline of my son. I am also pregnant with our second child, and have my share of short-tempered days. I sometimes yell at him unnecessarily, and I’ve caught myself spanking him for things that could maybe use a light form of discipline. I’m so worried that I’ll end up with one of “those” (wild and unruly) children, but at the same time, I don’t want my son to fear his parents.. I know there really is no right or wrong answer, but there are so many options that it’s hard not to second guess yourself..
