Does mascara color make a difference?

There are some questions that we all have when it comes to makeup, hair and life in general right? Well we all have searched the internet, asked other people and even done ancient things like opening a book. And alas we never seem to have the answers to our questions. Insert Brittany.

I have had the honor of being a part of a great digital pr and social media consulting network (bloggers community) that I can interact with like minded and curious beauty folks. I asked them to ask me questions to get my mind running and aid in helping others when it comes to beauty.

The question asked was: Does mascara color make a difference? And it was pointed out that black mascara is most common and abundant so why colors?

black mascara

Answer: Yes and No. It all depends on what look you are going for.

To elaborate. Black is most common just like water (I suppose that’s the best analogy). You can pretty much always use it. But if you are wanting to enhance your eye color for instance:

green eye makeup

Well then you’ll want to go with colored mascara. Purples for darker (brown) eyes, blues for blue eyes…you get my point?

But you ask, what about black brown?

Black brown mascara is great for softer less dramatic looks. Think natural looks. It’s like flavored water. Good but you can’t use it for everything.

(OK my analogy isn’t that great – ha!)

Wait, you want to know about clear?

Clear mascara is like a starter and basic mascara. But it’s also great for those with already super luxurious and thick lashes. Or for those that get eyelash extensions.

In the end, I say pick black because it’s the most useful, the easiest to come by and always have a wide choices in price ranges.

My favorite?

  1. I think this is great advice. I’d completely forgotten about clear mascara! It’s great for taming eyebrows (makes the hairs align and stick in place) But for the most part I use black mascara.

  2. My MAC consultant told me that purple mascara and eyeliner would be great for my green eyes and while I still stick to black mascara, I often use the eyeliner!

  3. I too use the purples for eyeliner (brown eyes), but my lashes are so dark that black makes them look fake, so I lean towards the black-brown mascara for every day wear.
